A Buying Guide for
L-Sealers/Shrink Tunnels.

Quality & Pride

There is no Substitute

Does the manufacturer build the machines to last several years? Or was it built with parts that are going to have to be replaced monthly-yearly? All manufacturers should sell replacement parts, however, machines manufactured with poor quality parts on purpose will cost you small fortunes in replacement parts and service costs later.  Eastey builds its equipment with longevity in mind.

Standard Features Does the equipment come with base, levelers, spare parts kit and heavy duty locking casters at no up charge? Eastey offers these at no up charge on most models.

Free Options Do you have the option of different types of conveyors, mesh belt or live rollers, in shrink tunnels at no up charge? Do you have the option of a pin perf. or electric hole punch at no up charge? Do you have the option of getting your equipment painted any color under the rainbow at no up charge? Eastey offers all of this as standard - no up charges.

Modifications This option is a real advantage over your competition. When the manufacturer can change things to accommodate you - all the better. Eastey not only modifies, it also custom builds for special drying applications and those extra large packages.

Frames that have been pre-drilled make adding an option a little easier. Quality built frames should last many years and can be rebuilt in the future. Eastey frames are pre-drilled and can be rebuilt.

Lower Seal Bars Do you have to take the whole seal bar off to replace the lower seal pads which can take 1/2 hour to 1 hour? Or can you simply pull out the old seal pad and put in the new - which takes you 5 to 10 minutes, like on an Eastey?

Plating
Zinc - a dull finish, wears fast and rusts.
Nickel Chromium - a brighter finish, wears ten times as long as zinc does. Eastey uses Nickel Chromium.

Head Return Cylinders on Manual L-Sealers. Are they the same as the ones that close your screen door, or are they custom made to withstand millions of strokes? Eastey head return cylinders are custom made, with heavy duty Teflon inserts.

Arm Castings made out of cast aluminum will take years of use and still be like brand new. Arm castings made of steel tubing formed or spot welded together, have a tendency to bend or crack under abusive conditions. Eastey's are cast aluminum.  The out-feed castings should be high enough to allow a clear flow of the product from the sealer to tunnel, without being slowed down by an out-feed arm casting, which also reduces operator speeds and output.

Are the Seal Bars Anodized? This is very important because anodizing hardens the outer surface of aluminum. Which in turn gives you many years of life. Un-anodized seal bars pit and start to erode within a year or two from cleaning and constant heating with various films. New seal bars complete range from $225.00 to $500.00. Eastey anodizes its seal bars.

Relay Logic vs. Control Logic on a Manual L-Sealer.
*Relay logic - adjustments are mechanical and can be accessed on the outside of sealer.
*Control logic - adjustment for dwell time, conveyor time, and wire temp are inside the sealer.
In the years after the warranty has expired, you will be more likely to find the correct relay logic replacement part at your local electrical supply house verses the control logic board. Eastey uses Relay logic.

Air Flow - if the tunnel doesn't have 4-sided air flow or tubes and a velocity control - Don't buy it if your looking for great packages. Airflow should surround your package.

Temperature Controls on tunnels should read accurately and maintain a constant temperature inside to assure proper shrinkage of the package. Many Shrink Tunnels will wrap the occasional product, but when line speeds increase they cannot maintain a even temperature leaving poorly wrapped products. Eastey uses digital temperature controller accurate within 1 to 4 degrees.

Material and Weight Can you lift one end of the machine with one finger or do you need the forklift? If the equipment is built with light-weight metals, it will not withstand years of use. Eastey Equipment needs the forklift.

Internet If you use it - Vendors Web Sites are useful with brochures and quote files at your fingertips, like the Eastey Web Site: www.eastey.com and e-mail: Eastey@dgi.net.

UL - Listed Equipment It's a plus. 80% of Eastey Shrink Packaging Equipment is UL Listed, and not just the electrical board, but the whole machine.

Lead Time How long do you want to wait...1-2-3-4 months? If Eastey lead time goes over 4 weeks, people are being hired to insure customers reasonable lead times. Eastey lead time may vary between 1 day to 4 weeks.

Delivery Do you get your equipment 99% of the time when you requested or is it 2-3-4 weeks late? Eastey ships on its scheduled ship date 99.9% of the time.

Trained Service Personnel can make all the difference in the world when a machine is down. Eastey trains at distributor locations as well as having sales & service schools at the factory and Eastey does it for free.

Parts All parts leaving a manufacturer/parts supplier to aid the customer should go out the day requested, with the right number of parts in the box to match the packing slip and bill that comes later. The correct part should be received the first time. When accounting and service people spend time correcting parts suppliers errors - it costs money and the part just got more expensive. Eastey has a service and parts department bar none.

Does the Manufacturer you buy from sell Equipment to Distributors and End Users? Now your vendor has just become your competition. Where is the loyalty there? Eastey sells equipment only through distributors.

Made in the USA, its important to the people at Eastey.

A Buying Guide for
Eastey Sleeve Wrapper Systems

Quality & Pride

There is no Substitute

What is Sleeve Wrapping (Bundling)? Wrapping, sealing and cutting a curtain of Polyethylene or PVC film around a package to unitize, contain or protect that package. The package then passes through a shrink tunnel, exits the tunnel and then the film shrinks down tightly around the package and secures the contents.

Analyzing the Application - In order to effectively recommend a Sleeve Wrapping (Bundling) system to a customer, you must fully understand the application and the needs of the customer. By reviewing the application with the customer and filling out an EASTEY APPLICATION EVALUATION FORM you should have an excellent understanding of what is expected of the machinery you are purchasing.

Types of Wrap: Bulls-Eye closure is most common. The product is oriented so the Bulls-Eye is located on the side where there are the least amount of product joints. Some customers prefer a complete closure which in some applications is accomplished using oversized film.

Applications:

· Unitizing/Bundling - Wrapping one or more identical (or dissimilar) items for easier handling or protection.

· Tray Wrapping - Reduces the cost of full corrugated boxes while providing a secure and aesthetically pleasing package.

· Protection - Wrapping one or more similar or dissimilar items to protect against theft or damage.

· Shipping - The tight, secure wrap achieved makes an excellent package for shipping by convenient commercial carriers.

Type of Film: 1 - 4 Mil Polyethylene film is usually selected because of it's excellent tear resistance and economical cost. When film clarity is desired PVC film can be used - make sure the shrink orientation of the film is suitable for the application.

Markets: There are a number of markets which lend themselves to Sleeve Wrapping. Some of them are Books, Drugs, Shoes, Stationary Supplies, Forms, Appliances, Canned Goods, Rope, Any Boxed Items, Newspapers/Magazines, Textiles/Linens/Diapers, Floor Tiles, Pick and Pack (i.e.: Drugs, Cosmetics, Household Products, Books, Mail Order Houses, School/Office Supplies, Automotive Parts, Etc...).

Why Choose EASTEY Sleeve Wrappers?  Eastey has a family of Sleeve Wrappers and companion Shrink Tunnels which are "BUILT RIGHT AND PRICED RIGHT" and designed to provide years of dependable service in production environments. The Sleeve Wrapper and companion Shrink Tunnel can be built on a common frame to minimize product shingling and promote smooth transfer through the system. Some customization of the standard models is available - consult the factory when necessary.

EASTEY Sleeve Wrapper Design Features Include:

· 4 Basic models to choose from:

        1. A simple manual model where the operator aligns and feeds the product through the wrapper.

        2. A semi-automatic model requires the operator to align the product and activate the seal cycle by depressing the two start buttons.

        3. A fully automatic right angle model can take product delivered at 90º and collate multi-packs or index individual packages without the need of an operator.

        4. An in-line belt-to-belt model automatically takes individual packages and indexes them through the system without the need of an operator.

· Wrappers come in three convenient seal widths of 35", 50" or 70". The seal bar height can be adjusted to an opening up to 19".

· Duo-Seal- Hot Knife Seal Bars, with interchangeable sealing inserts, insure positive seals with most polyethylene or PVC films.

· Heavy duty welded tubular steel frames provide extended service while maintaining machine alignment during day-to-day operation.

· User friendly controls and adjustments allow for easy product change-over and normal maintenance.

· Heavy Duty Shrink Tunnels come with Falcon Belt conveyors to insure proper air flow while fully supporting and transporting the product as the film shrinks.
